Which Phone Should You Buy?

The newest iPhone’s have just been released as of September 2018, and the newest Samsung and Google devices have been announced. I originally wrote this article in 2014, but I think the same philosophy applies today, and have re-published this to help people decide which phone is best for them.

I don’t know how or why everyone started acting like kindergarten children when it comes to the technology we use, and bragging about how their device, is so much better than your device, but no doubt, you have gotten into one of these discussions yourself, and may even be confused about which phone you should buy?

You also need to be careful about taking someone’s advice or “opinion” on what you should get because lets face it, opinions are like, You-Know-What… and everybody has one. The problem I have seen, is that their needs, or situation, might be different from yours, and these devices have become so “personal”, that you really need to take your own needs into account when deciding.

I normally would not even bother giving my opinion, because mine is not necessarily any better than anyone else’s, but I get asked so many times, almost daily, about which one is better, So here goes.

While my preference is usually with the Apple devices, because I have other IOS and Mac products, I have asked a lot of people about their devices, and rarely have I had anyone say it was a bad experience, and the reality is, you will probably love any of the current offerings out there. The most common feedback from people who buy other devices, like Samsung are, that they can do things you cannot do with an IOS device. This can be technically true, but I have interviewed hundreds of users and rarely have I seen a useful example, for the average user, of when this is true. Most people I have interviewed, that like the ability to customize or “tweak” their devices , are usually more technically inclined too, and average users are usually more concerned with the whole user experience, and again, everyone I have interviewed, has provided feedback that they love their device, no matter which one they had.

I do a lot of support work about not only mobile devices, but also desktops, laptops and many other technologies, and one important thing not always discussed is the “entire” user experience. What I mean by this is, if you have other Apple products, an iPhone might be the best choice for you, where as, if you are entrenched in the Windows world, maybe a Windows phone would be a better choice? Without going into too much detail about this one, let me just say that feedback from users has been more positive from the Apple world, than with some of the others. Does that make any of the others bad, absolutely not! It really depends on your own needs. Very rarely do I talk to anyone who does not use either an iPhone or a Samsung, these are without question, the 2 most popular.

That being said, here is what I own. The iPhone XS Max 256GB. I usually always find a reason I want the newest, which is the iPhone XS Max, as of this posting. iPhone, iPad, iMac, IBROKE!

How can I view the 3D Images?

There are so many ways you can view these that you are sure to have hours of fun with them. Here are some:

STEREOSCOPE
was invented in the 18th century and gives a splendid 3D experience. Print a side-by-side Kúla image and enjoy with this old school method.

VR
Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard are an example of virtual reality (VR) devices which can be used to watch 3D content captured with Kúla’s lenses.

Vidometer

Vidometer is a very cool app that lets you overlay information on your videos such as, speed, altitude, and even maps in the pro version.

I have been using a dash-cam in my car for some time now, and I am getting to really like the ability to see all this detail on my videos, especially for trips and trying to show someone where the coolest motorcycle roads or scenic drives are is way easier and more informative when you can overlay a map.

HearPlanet Audio Guide

I have posted about the HearPlanet Audio Guide in the past, but I have always believed in supporting the programs I like to use myself because that way, the more people who use the product the better chances that they will stay around, and the more improvements we can expect from them.

When you are in a new city, and want to know what things to see and do, what’s the first thing you would normally do? Probably ask a local? Well, this app is like having a “Virtual Tour-guide” with you everywhere you go. I have even used it to find new and interesting things to do in my Hometown. This has, and remains to be one of the best apps of its kind, and I encourage you to download and try this one yourself. You will be amazed!

I am excited to see what they do next with this one.

CrazyTalk

While this app still seems to work just fine, I was just informed by the makers, that there are no plans to continue development and support of the IOS products. I imagine not enough people supported the IOS versions so they are focusing on their desktop versions which are also awesome.

Crazytalk is an amazing app that lets you easily create talking animated videos with little effort. You can actually create a video just using your voice and I use these all the time to create business and how-to videos as well.

This one was just a fun on of my sisters dog Butch, sometimes it’s good to just have fun! Available as an IOS app and software for your computer.

I get people asking me all the time. How do I create videos for my product or business? Well, with apps like this there really is no excuse, and of course its just plain fun!

Touchcast App

The Touchcast App is my favorite tool to date I have found for doing all kinds of amazing videos, even using green screen and using nothing more than my iPad or iPhone. A lot of my instructional videos on my YouTube channel were created quickly and easily with this amazing app. Check it out for yourself here or watch this tutorials on how you can use this app and green screen tech to create your own amazing videos. The software is now available for the desktop too!

Bunker Ring

I have been using this Bunker Ring for some time now, and I have to say its been the best accessory I have ever bought for my mobile devices. Its simple, effective, and cheap. The video talks about using it on your device without a case, but I have been using mine quite successfully with then case on my iPhone 6 Plus, shown in the photo below. Also I bought mine on Amazon for about $15.00
